Martha Allen was a brilliant student in England and earned tokens of commemoration from the Queen of England and the English schools she attended. She sailed on the packet ship, "Manchester", with her widowed mother, two brother, and two sisters. They arrived in New York on May 16, 1861. They traveled from New York to Council Bluffs, Iowa where they joined a group of Saints to cross the plains. They arrived in Salt Lake City on September 26, 1861.
Martha lived with the Bishop family in Tooele as their housekeeper. She also worked for Sarah Daft. Eventually, Martha went to Logan to help her married sister. This is where she met Charles Burtis Robbins.
After Martha and Charles Burtis Robbins were married in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City, Utah, they spent time at Promontory Point where Charles had a contract with the railroad.
After her husband passed away in 1905, Martha traveled back east to the World's Fair in St. Louis and several trips to Chicago. She also traveled to California several times. She loved nature, beautiful sunsets, and the grand mountains. She lived with her grand daughter for the last ten years of her life.
